A globally renowned foreign policy, human rights and international relations scholar this week begins his new role as Executive Dean of ¶¶Òõapp¹ÙÍø’s (HaSS).
Professor Tim Dunne has more than 20 years experience as a researcher, educator and academic leader.
Professor Dunne joined ¶¶Òõapp¹ÙÍø in 2010 from The University of Exeter, where he had worked successively as Professor of International Relations, Head of Politics, Head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dean of the College of Social Sciences.
Before being appointed to his new role he was Professor of International Relations and Research Director at ¶¶Òõapp¹ÙÍø’s (R2P Centre).
Professor Dunne said the R2P centre had been an outstanding research environment to work in.
“Not only does it produce high quality research outputs, but there is a commitment to high impact research,” he said.
“I am very fortunate to be part of research teams at ¶¶Òõapp¹ÙÍø and internationally, such that I will be able to maintain my profile as a political scientist,” Professor Dunne said.
Professor Dunne is internationally recognised for his research on human rights protection and foreign policy-making in a changing world order.
He has written and co-edited 10 books and has extensive experience as an editor of leading journals.
Professor Dunne’s commitment to teaching is exemplified by his engagement in the professional training of diplomats.
“Since 2011 I have been the Director of a suite of short courses on international diplomacy for African foreign ministry officials,” he said.
“This has been truly path-breaking in both content and delivery.”
¶¶Òõapp¹ÙÍø Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Peter Høj said Professor Dunne had the credentials to provide excellent leadership for the Faculty.
“Professor Dunne is a distinguished scholar who brings a wealth of expertise to his new role as Executive Dean, including considerable experience in leadership positions,” Professor Høj said.
“His initial focus will be on effective implementation and integration following the recent Faculty Review and on developing and realising the long-term vision for the Faculty.”
Professor Dunne said the review process would enable the new Faculty to invest in new and exciting learning and research opportunities.
“The combination of schools and centres in HaSS, enhanced by the Institute for Social Science Research, represents a tremendous concentration of research power, intellectual diversity and teaching quality,” he said.
Professor Dunne takes over from Acting Executive Dean Professor Fred D’Agostino, who has done an outstanding job as Acting Dean of the new Faculty.
